We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to encouraging participation in bicycling at all levels. The Club sponsors weekly races, both on and off road. We also work with local governments and bike shops in self-regulating the use of our local trails and roads for responsible bike usage.

Glassier – MTB Race

Date: Wednesday, August 5, 2020
Event Type: Mountain Bike
Start Time: 6:00pm, please be prepared for cold and possibly darker conditions at the finish.
Location: Hooks Spur Road, Basalt

Parking Information: Parking is limited at the start area, so plan to park in nearby Willits and ride to the start.

Registration:  At the small dirt parking lot at Hook’s Lane trailhead

Time Trial Course: All racers will begin at the gate to the Glassier Open Space, ride up the Glassier Trail, and finish at the top of Glassier. Approximately 2.4 miles.

Social Distancing Protocol and Start Times
To help ensure the safety of all racers, volunteers and staff, we will follow these protocols:

  • All time trials will have pre-assigned start times through the web registration process.
  • If this is your first race of the season, please check in and pick up your bib numbers at least 15 minutes before the first racer’s start time.
  • You will receive your start time in advance of the race via email.
  • Please arrive in the start queue no later than 30 seconds before your start time, but no earlier than 10 minutes before your start time. Do not congregate with other riders at the start or finish. Failure to meet this requirement will mean a forfeiture of start position and relegation to end of start list.
  • We will not have start line holders for time trials. All racers must start from a full stop with one foot on the ground.
  • Leave 6 feet of distance between yourself and other riders when passing or being passed. Announce yourself when passing.
  • Individuals at high risk for COVID-19 are asked to stay home.
  • If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please stay home.

Regular Course Description: All racers start near the Hooks Spur parking, ride down-valley on the road and take a left onto the Glassier Open Space trail. Riders will proceed up the Glassier Bike/Hike Trail (course marshals will open and close the trail gates) and climb to the top, then proceed onto Vasten. Riders will follow Vasten clockwise until it intersects with Buckhorn Traverse, then turn right and ride back to Glassier. Descend Glassier, and finish back near the start line.

Start Times and Number of Laps:
Wave 1: 6:00pm – Open Men 1 lap
Wave 2: 6:05 pm – Open Women, Advanced Men 1 lap
Wave 3: 6:10 pm – All Other Categories 1 lap

Race Check-In: All racers must verbally check-in at each mass start race regardless of membership level. Race check-in will take place from 5:00 PM to 5:45 PM at the start of the race (unless specifically noted otherwise). Please wear a mask when checking-in.

We will issue your race numbers at your first race. You will keep the same number for the entire season.

Spring Gulch Hill Climb TT

Location: The Spring Gulch Hill Climb  will start near the entrance to Colorado Rocky Mountain School (CRMS) in Carbondale. To get to the start and CRMS, take Highway 133 towards the Main Street roundabout in Carbondale (7/11 intersection). Take the first right coming from highway 82 at 7/11 onto West Main Street and proceed about 1.1 miles to CRMS, 1493 County Road 106. Limited parking is available in the pullouts on Thompson Creek Road, just past CRMS.

Parking Info:We suggest parking at the High School and riding to the start because of the limited parking at and near CRMS on Thompson Creek Road.

Warm-Up: Remember to obey all traffic laws and please warm-up on Spring Gulch Road (CR 108).  In order to decrease our impact on local evening commuter traffic please do not warm up on Hardwick Bridge Road (CR 109).

Course Description: This year’s race will be 6.6 miles from start to finish gaining around 1,700 vertical feet. The course averages over 6% but begins with a much steeper climb.  For this year’s finish, racers will continue past the Spring Gulch parking lot another 0.6 miles. The finish line will be located on Thompson Creek Road where FS Road 306 cuts off to the left. This is the first dirt road on the left past the Nordic center.

Lower River Road Time Trial

Course Description: The 2020 Aspen Cycling Club race season begins with the Lower River Road Time Trial. The first racer departs at 6:00pm and racers start every 30 seconds. Racers begin just below the intersection of Gerbaz Way and Lower River Road, then ride northwest on Lower River Road, turn around just before the bridge at Highway 82, then ride back toward the start. Finish line is approximately .85 miles northwest of the start line. The race is 8.8 miles in length.

Do not block cars, and do not urinate in public. If caught urinating, you will be disqualified from the evening’s race. Plan accordingly.

Parking Info: Very limited parking is available at Jaffe Park and near Woody Creek Tavern.

Basalt Mountain TT – MTB Race

Course Description: Race starts just past trailhead, a couple hundred yards up the Basalt Mountain road. From there, racers will climb Basalt Mountain Road 524 until they turn left at Mill Creek trail. Racers will descend the singletrack to Road 509 (Cattle Creek Road) and return to the trailhead. All racers will complete one lap. Start and finish line will be the same.

UPDATED 9/13/20 Course Description: Racers will start on the Owl Creek Bike Path approximately a half mile south of the start of the Airline Trail near the airport, then ride the Owl Creek path to Airline trail, up Airline trail and right on Cozyline. Racers will descend Cozyline and finish just before the intersection of the Brush Creek Bike path.
