Difficult Time Trial – Road Race

Course Description: The 2018 Aspen Cycling Club race season begins with the traditional Difficult Time Trial. The start and finish are on Highway 82 just past the Difficult Campground entrance, about 3.5 miles east of Aspen. The first racer departs at 6:00pm and racers start every 30 seconds. The course runs west from the base of Independence Pass near Difficult Campground on Highway 82 toward Aspen. Racers turn around at the cone near the Northstar Preserve Bridge and return to the start to finish. Total race length is about 5 miles and the course is “rolling and curvy.”

Start Times:  This race is a time trial, and you will be assigned a start time when you check in the day of the race. Please be aware of the Aspen Cycling Club Time Trial Start procedure: Competitors must arrive in the start queue no later than 30 seconds before their start. Failure to meet this requirement will mean a forfeiture of start position and relegation to end of start list. All time trial racers are required to start from a full stop (if race officials/marshals/volunteers are available, each racer will be held for a time trial start). If no holder is available, each racer must start with one foot on ground.

Parking Info: Very limited parking is available at the Difficult Campground entrance and east (uphill) of the start along the shoulder. Riders are encouraged to ride to the start from Aspen as a part of their warm-up.

Woody Creek–Old Snowmass–Lenado – Road Race

Location: Upper River Road just past Doc Henry Road
Parking Info: Limited parking is available at the lot near the intersection of Upper River Rd and Woody Creek Rd or at the Intercept Lot.

Course Description: From the start line, the course first heads down valley on Upper and Lower River Roads for about 6 miles to a turnaround point ¼ mile above the bridge over the Roaring Fork River in Old Snowmass. From the turnaround point, the course heads back up Lower and Upper River Roads climbing 400 vertical feet to the start line. From here, all racers will veer left onto the WoodyCreek/Lenado Road where the course gently ascends 600 feet over about 4.75 miles. The finish line is located just before the end of the pavement.

Wave 1: 6:00pm – Open Men
Wave 2: 6:02pm – Open Women, Advanced Men
Wave 3: 6:05pm – All Other Categories
