Trails Day

August 1, 2019 by Andy Ralston

The Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers (RFOV) is asking you and others of the Aspen Cycling Club to continue the commitment to maintaining the trails we ride on.

Trails Day participation is required to be eligible for end of season points. While race points will no longer be awarded for Trails Day we strongly encourage our members, both trail and road brethren, to give back to the community by participating in the schedule ACC Trails Day or a substitute day.

ACC Trails Day: SNOWMASS, Rescheduled for Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 5:00-7:30 PM
Meet at the Snowmass Town Hall at 5:00 PM (west of the Clark’s/Town Center building). Please make every effort to arrive by 5:00 but if you can’t make it by then we will have a volunteer stationed at check-in until 5:30 PM. Please ride, take the bus, park in garage (free) or park at Snowmass center in lower section (not at Clark’s level) so shoppers are not inconvenienced. Bring gloves, water, insect repellent, rain gear and wear appropriate clothing. New this year is there is ONLY an online waiver (no paper). RFOV will have iPads at check-in but the more people who can complete the waiver before hand the better. Please write “Aspen Cycling Club” where it says group project name. The online waiver can be found here: http://rfov.org/2019-projects/rfov-season-waiver/

Waivers completed for the previous (canceled) Trails Day remain valid – if you filled one out last time you don’t have to fill it out again, just show up.

As always we’ll enjoy pizza and beer afterwards – compliments of the club!

Substitute “Trails Day”
While you are encouraged to participate in the ACC Trails Day if you cannot make it on that date you can still do your part in helping maintain our trails and receive your Trails Day credit. Simply sign-up to join any of the RFOV Public Projects* that happen before the cutoff date below, download & print the ACC-RFOV Trail Work form, and bring it with you to the project. A minimum of 3 hours work is required to receive points credit. At the completion of the project ask the RFOV supervisor to sign your form. All forms must be submitted to the ACC Results Coordinator within 7 days of the substitute project. The final cutoff to submit forms is 5:00 PM Wednesday, September 11. Forms will not be accepted after that time – no exceptions!

* It has to be one of their public projects – sorry, you can’t kill two birds with one stone by participating in a SkiCo or similarly sponsored project.

Frying Pan presented by Limelight Hotel (Road)

April 3, 2019 by Rachel Beck

The 2019 Frying Pan Road Race is presented by the Limelight Hotel.

Date: Wednesday, June 26, 2019
Start Time: 6:00pm
Location: Registration and start line will be 2 miles up the Frying Pan Road from Basalt
Event Type: Road
Party info: Post Race party at the Tipsy Trout

IMPORTANT: NUMBER PLACEMENT
The Frying Pan road race is ACC’s longest and most attended race. Even with its length and climbs, this race typically comes down to a series of pack finishes.

In order to accurately collect your finish time and position, you need to pin your number in the correct position (see image below). The camera needs to see your bib as you cross the line. If the camera can’t see your bib, you don’t get a time.

The bib needs to be placed on your RIGHT RIB CAGE so that it can be read while your hands are on the handlebars. USE FOUR (OR MORE) PINS. DO NOT FOLD NUMBER. Racers need to keep their hands on their bars (don’t sit up) when crossing the finish line. Bibs should be pinned on the right rib cage.

Course Description: Both the short and long course share the same first 13 miles. From the start, the course heads east up the Frying Pan Road past Ruedi Reservoir to the high point above the reservoir at mile marker 17.

Short Course: Short course categories will turn around at mile marker 17 and reverse course to the finish line near mile marker 4. Race distance for this group is about 28 miles.

Long Course: From the high point above the reservoir the long course categories will continue east on the Frying Pan Road to the Norrie Colony (about 25 miles from the start) where they will reverse course and ride to finish line near mile marker 4. For these three groups, the race features approximately 48 miles of racing and 3,000 feet of climbing.

Course Map:
Short course: Frying Pan Road Race short course
Long course: Frying Pan Road Race long course
