Catherine’s Store TT

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

It was a warm and windy race. Windy? Do we call gail force winds windy or is there a better word for winds that speed? Whatever you call them it didn’t stop the dedicated members of the ACC from testing their early season legs. While the racing is fun and painful the best part about the first race of the season is seeing everyone and reconnecting after winter. Hope to see everyone out next week at the Difficult TT.

Oh yeah, and results are posted at www.aspencyclingclub.org.

Welcome to the 2010 Race Season!

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010
It is spring! The snow in the high country is melting quickly, roads and trails are clearing, and we’re all seeing more bikes in motion. I am excited to spend time in the saddle with new and old cycling friends this summer!

Our race calendar for 2010 will be mostly familiar with ten road bike and ten mountain bike races. Changes include three new races, a bigger USA Cycling-sanctioned Aspen Criterium, and a new awards banquet venue. New races are an early season road race from Old Snowmass toward Lenado, a midseason mountain bike race over the Snowmass Divide, and a Reverse Cross Mountain XC near the end of the season.Huge thanks go to our 2010 sponsors! Please keep in mind that these businesses help us continue to offer an exceptionally affordable season of racing. Without their support, our season would be much different. Please remember to support these businesses with your patronage and your recommendations to friends. Special thanks to our perennial Presenting Sponsor Alpine Bank and our new sponsor bike shop Basalt Bike and Ski.

One of our obligations as responsible cyclists in the Aspen area is to help maintain popular mountain biking trails. As in years past, ACC members will team up with the Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers for two ACC-specifi c trail days. Our Adopt-a-Trail days will be held on the Highline Trail near Snowmass Village and on Smuggler
Mountain trails near Aspen. ACC series points will be awarded to Trail Day participants.

Happy Spring! Tune up your bikes, and tune up your legs. See you out on the roads and trails, or at the races.

This year the Aspen Criterium will have a new format, including opportunities for ACC racers to compete in USA Cycling-sanctioned racing close to home on a familiar course. The change in format means the race will not be part of the ACC points series, except that racers will earn participation points. It does, however, mean that more racers from outside the valley will come to compete and help us build the size and excitement of the event! Big prize money should attract a fast group of racers.
