Its back again, but we are counting down the days until the path is fully paved
and we have to archive this good ol’ suffer fest. Dust off your fat tire rigs,
it’s time to get back on the mountain bikes and start the season off with the
Rio Grande Time Trial.

Please take advantage of on line Aspen Cycling Club membership registration and available purchase of season long race packages at http://www.prerace.com/memberships/signup/33 . On line membership registration will close at 6:00 PM on the Tuesday before each race to allow time to prepare the start and membership lists.
The course hasn’t changed. Head out of Jaffee park up the steep hill and try to
uncross your eyes enough at the top to make it all the way down to the
slaughterhouse bridge. The finish line will be just down valley from the bridge
and the beginning of the pavement.

The race will kick off at 6 o’clock and racers will go out in thirty second
intervals. Please be attentive to your start time and line up accordingly.
Please be aware of the Aspen Cycling Club Time Trial Start procedure:

Competitors must arrive in the start queue no later than 30 seconds before their
start. Failure to meet this requirement will mean a forfeiture of start position
and relegation to end of start list.
All Time Trial racers are required to start from a full stop – if race
officials/marshals/volunteers are available, each racer will be held for a Time
Trial start. If no holder is available, each racer must start with one foot on
ground.

Marshals are needed and points will be awarded to members who give their time and effort to marshal. 30 points for the first race you marshal and 15 for all subsequent marshal days. New for this year, every time you marshal a race your name will be added into a special end-of-season raffle; the more you marshal the more chances you’ll have to win. No experience required, friends and family greatly appreciated! Please remember that the races won’t run smoothly without volunteer marshals! To volunteer, please email (new this year) Mouse at mousesmv@hotmail.com or call her at 618-4626. Please let her know ASAP if you can Marshal!

Also, racers can call Mouse in advance to request a specific start time.

Race changes and/or cancellation due to inclement weather will be announced at
the Start.

Registration begins at five o’clock and closes at 5:50. If this will be your
first race of the season please arrive early to get set up for the season. All
racers will also pick up their mountain series numbers for the season.
See you all on Wednesday.

The Aspen Cycling Club 2012 race series continues on Wednesday May 2 @ 6:00 PM with a completely new race, the Spring Gulch Hill Climb followed by a post race party at the Red Rock Diner.

Please take advantage of on line Aspen Cycling Club membership registration and available purchase of season long race packages at http://www.prerace.com/memberships/signup/33 . On line membership registration will close at 6:00 PM on the Tuesday before each race to allow time to prepare the start and membership lists. Old fashioned printable copies of membership applications can be found at http://www.aspencyclingclub.org/uploads/Membership-Application-WEB-ACC-2012.pdf Please mail in immediately to allow for delivery and processing ahead of the first race or bring to the start.

The Spring Gulch Hill Climb will start at the entrance to Colorado Rocky Mountain School (CRMS). ACC recommends that you park BEHIND the Red Rock Diner, 155 Colorado Highway 133, or elsewhere in Carbondale and ride your bike to the start. Start order will be Senior Men A at 6:00, then Vet Men A two minutes later, followed by all Women’s categories plus Sport, Masters, Juniors three minutes later.

To get to the start and CRMS, take Highway 133 south to Main Street (7/11 intersection). Turn right (west) on Main Street and proceed about 1.1 miles onto County Road 106 and to CRMS, 1493 County Road 106.

The start will be a neutral roll out from the bend near CRMS with racing going live after crossing the bridge and “West Bank Rd.” intersection and hitting the base of the climb. The finish line is 6 miles from the start at the dirt pull out on the right side of the road at Spring Gulch. The course averages over 6% and gains around 1500 feet. The road flattens out with about 1/2 mile to go and then kicks up to about 4% to the finish line.

There is no center line so riders will need to be respectful of the rules and act accordingly. The road surface is chip and seal with abundant wild life, so be careful on the way down!

Four (4) Marshals are needed and points will be awarded to members who give their time and effort to marshal. Please let her know ASAP if you can Marshall!

To celebrate another Aspen Cycling Club season and a new race course please join us for a post race party at the Red Rock Diner beginning promptly after the race. Bob Olenick and the Red Rock Diner will generously provide two (2) drinks and a collection of food for Aspen Cycling Club members and supporters.

Call the ACC hotline 970-922-2000 for the latest information and details. Race changes and/or cancellation due to inclement weather will be announced at the Start.

All area riders are encouraged to come out and race. Advance registration is not required. Racers can register and pay at the START between 5:00 and 5:50. Entry fees are $5 for ACC members and $10 for nonmembers. Prepaid members must check in before the race start.

The Aspen Cycling Club Race 2012 series starts Wednesday April 25 @ 6:00 PM with the traditional Difficult Time Trial! An early spring should have you ready to get into the Aspen Cycling Club race season, but come out even if it will be your first ride of the season!

New this year, on line registration for membership in the Aspen Cycling Club and purchase of season long race packages is available at http://www.prerace.com/memberships/signup/33.On line membership registration will close at 6:00 PM on the Tuesday before each race to allow us time to prepare all of the start and membership lists. Old fashioned printable copies of membership applications can be found at http://www.aspencyclingclub.org/uploads/Membership-Application-WEB-ACC-2012.pdf Please mail in immediately to allow for delivery and processing ahead of the first race or bring to the start.

Please arrive early to allow plenty of time to complete registration and pick up your race number. Registration opens @ 5:00 PM and closes @ 5:50 PM. Come to the start with your completed form and remember to bring your entry $$. You can only earn ACC points if you are an ACC member. Teams – team captains and individuals – be sure to report your team affiliations! As initiated last year, only the top three finishers in each category earn points for their respective teams. There remains no limit on how many members can be on each team. We encourage everyone to join a team and teams to actively recruit members.

The 2012 Aspen Cycling Club race season begins with the traditional difficult road time trial. The start and finish are on Highway 82 just past the Difficult Campground entrance about 3.5 miles east of Aspen. The first racer departs at 6:00 PM and racers start every 30 seconds. The course runs from the base of Independence Pass/Difficult Campground west on Highway 82 toward Aspen. Racers turn around at the cone near the Northstar Preserve Bridge and return to the start to finish. Total race length is about 5 miles, 11 to 17 minutes of effort. The course is “rolling and curvy”.

Please be aware of the Aspen Cycling Club Time Trial Start procedure:

Competitors must arrive in the start queue no later than 30 seconds before their start. Failure to meet this requirement will mean a forfeiture of start position and relegation to end of start list.

All Time Trial racers are required to start from a full stop – if race officials/marshals/volunteers are available, each racer will be held for a Time Trial start. If no holder is available, each racer must start with one foot on ground.

Very limited parking is available at the Difficult Campground entrance and east (uphill) of the start along the shoulder. Riders are encouraged to ride to the start from Aspen as a part of their warm-up.

Marshals are always needed and points will be awarded to members who give their time and effort to marshal. 30 points for the first race you marshal and 15 for all subsequent marshal days. New for this year, every time you marshal a race your name will be added into a special end-of-season raffle; the more you marshal the more chances you’ll have to win.
You’ve raced your legs off all summer and battled for points on the road and singletrack. Next Wednesday it’s time to combine all of that fitness with some good ol’ Euro-style fun. Cyclocross is the fastest growing segment of the cycling world and the ACC is proud to present two races at the base of Buttermilk with challenging courses set by CX Veteran Tom Clark, who raced for several years in Europe. The racing will be exciting, short, and awesome to watch! So, whether you’re looking for a warmup for the Colorado ‘Cross Cup, another Wednesday night race, a new challenge on your bike, or just something to watch while you sip on a Leffe, come on over to Buttermilk. A cyclocross bike is the preferred racing method, but mountain bikes work great as well, especially on courses set on ski areas like Buttermilk.

‘Cross races take quite a bit of setup, so volunteers are greatly appreciated! We need all of the help that we can get. We’ll be over there on Tuesday and invite anyone to join from 2:00 pm onward. We’ll be at it again to finish up on Wednesday at 3:00 pm. Racing will start at 6:00 pm as always, with registration closing 10 minutes prior.

We hope to see you all there!

The Rim Trail cross country mountain bike race provides some of the most fun-filled single-track racing of the season. Registration/Start will be at the end of the Snowmass Village Mall at Fanny Hill. Racers will head up Fanny Hill on the service road and make a RIGHT turn onto the Sleigh Ride Trail and ride it to Divide Road. After taking a RIGHT onto Divide Rd, a fast road decent will take racers to a hard LEFT turn onto the start of the Rim Trail. Then it’s “game on”, heading up the main climb and across the single-track roller-coaster that is Snowmass’ premier single-track! The finish will be just above the Rodeo Grounds on the gravel path at Horse Ranch, as usual. If you like fast buffed single-track, THIS COURSE ROCKS!

MARSHALS: Always needed and points will be awarded to members who give their time and effort to marshal. 30 points for the first race you marshal and 15 for all subsequent marshal days. No experience required. Please remember that the races won’t run smoothly without volunteer marshals! To volunteer, please call Mouse at 618-4626, or see her before the race.

Race changes and/or cancellation due to inclement weather will be announced at the Start. Parking is available at the Rodeo Lot and in Snowmass Village, but racers are always encouraged to ride to the start as it’s more environmentally friendly.

All area riders are encouraged to come out and race. Advance registration is not required. Racers can register and pay at the START. Entry fees are $5 for ACC members and $10 for nonmembers. Prepaid members must check in before the race start.

JERSEYS will be available at the race Wednesday night for $80. They’re great looking long-sleeve jerseys perfect for fall rides in the mountains as the temps start to drop. Grab one to keep you looking good while you support the club and represent all of our great sponsors.

The last Road Race event of the 2011 Aspen Cycling Club season will be the Maroon Bells Time Trial on Wednesday, September 7th at 6:00PM. How will you compare to Aspen Snowmass Women’s Pro Stage Race winner Kristin McGrath’s 29:15? Jessica Phillips’ 30:54? Annie Gonz’s 32:14 or Abby Mickey’s 32:59? The women’s Pro Stage race finish was slightly lower than the ACC finish, but only Jason Anderson’s 28:35 has clearly bested McGrath’s time in recent years while Wade Newsom and Len Zanni may have bested her time given ACC’s longer course. How fast can you conquer this classic Aspen ride and these measuring sticks?

The Maroon Bells Time Trial will start near the base of Aspen Highlands Ski Area and finish at the highest section of paved roadway, the bus stop loop next to the visitor center buildings at the end of Maroon Creek Road. Racers will race the clock in 30 second intervals OR a time interval deemed appropriate by Race Director Mouse.

The Aspen Cycling Club Time Trial Start procedure requires:

Competitors must arrive in the start queue no later than 30 seconds before their start. Failure to meet this requirement will mean a forfeiture of start position and relegation to end of start list.

All Time Trial racers are required to start from a full stop – if race officials/marshals/volunteers are available, each racer will be held for a Time Trial start. If no holder is available, each racer must start with one foot on ground.

Call the ACC hotline 970-922-2000 for the latest information and details.

Please contact Race Director Susan Carollo, a.k.a. Mouse, at 618-4626 to volunteer to assist as a Marshall and receive instructions.

Race changes and/or cancellation due to inclement weather will be announced at the Start.

There will NOT be a post race party as Highland’s Pizza is closed on weekdays.

All riders are encouraged to come out and race. Advance registration is not required. Racers can register and pay at the START between 5:00 and 5:50. No registration available after 5:50. Entry fees are $5 for ACC members and $10 for nonmembers. Prepaid members must check in before the race start.

ASPEN CYCLING CLUB’S BASALT MOUNTAIN CROSS COUNTRY MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE
The Basalt Mountain Cross Country race takes place next Wednesday, August 31st at 6:00 PM. To get to the race Start/Finish area, drive up into Missouri Heights via El Jebel Road, which turns into Upper Cattle Creek Rd. Follow Upper Cattle Creek Rd. past the Spring Park Reservoir where the road turns to dirt, then continues straight, but changes name to Basalt Mountain Rd. Continue up the road until you reach a parking lot/fork in the road. This is the Start/Finish area.
This fast and fun course, which has all the aspects of a great mountain bike race course, starts by taking the RIGHT fork and climbing up on “upper” Basalt Mountain Rd. which is a jeep road. Climb for 2 miles, then make a LEFT turn onto the Mill Creek single-track. Rip this sweet descent till it intersects with the “lower” Basalt Mountain Rd. Make a LEFT onto this road, continue to descend and be aware that it is an OPEN ROAD TO VEHICLES. This road takes you back to the Start/Finish area; it’s mainly a super-fast descent on dirt and gravel road, with a short climbing section. At the Start/Finish area, pass through the edge of the parking lot to meet the un-named single-track that heads southwest/down valley towards Spring Park Reservoir. This is a fast descent that ends with a short section of old jeep road that takes you back onto the Basalt Mountain Rd. (that you drove in on). Climb this dirt road back to the Start/Finish area. A few hundred feet of flat terrain awaits you before the Finish line.
Senior Men A and Vet Men A will do two long laps and all other categories will race one long lap plus the lower loop.
KIDS: This will be kids race #5 of the season and as usual, the young guns will go off at 5:45.

This season’s short track race will take place on Fanny Hill in Snowmass, with Registration, Check-In, and Start/Finish being held in the Base Village. Registration begins at 5:00 pm and will close at 5:50. If there is enough volunteer support, registration will be extended to 10 minutes before each start wave, similar to the Woody Creek Crit. This is also Kid’s race #4 of the season!

Rip the singletrack back down to Base Village to finish the lap. Settle into the suffering up the short, but steep climb and test your cornering skills lap after lap coming down Fanny Hill. There might be a few curve balls thrown into the course as we investigate small alterations on this brand new course. Each category will race for a set amount of time and then there will be a countdown of laps until the finish.
