We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to encouraging participation in bicycling at all levels. The Club sponsors weekly races, both on and off road. We also work with local governments and bike shops in self-regulating the use of our local trails and roads for responsible bike usage.

Blast the Mass

The next race of the 2014 ACC Race Series will be the Blast the Mass XC Course on Wednesday, July 2nd.

PARTY: The race will be followed by a sponsored party hosted by the New Belgium Ranger Station. The Ranger Station is located on The Snowmass Village Mall near Fanny Hill. The party will start around 7pm. Complimentary appetizers and 1 free drink will be provided.

REGISTRATION: Advance registration is not required. Racers can register and pay at Base Village between 5:00 and 5:50. No registration available after 5:50. Entry fees are $5 for ACC members and $10 for nonmembers. Prepaid members must check in before the race start.

PARKING: Free parking is available at the Base Village Parking Garage

THE COURSE: The start/finish is located in the new Base Village. SMA/VMA riders will head up the Dawdler Work Road to the water plant and intersect the Village Bound trail (LEFT TURN). This singletrack will continue onto K.A.R. briefly and then intersect the Thorton Work Road. Riders continue up this road to Ullrhof Restaurant where they will pick up the Cross Mountain Trail. Take the Cross Mountain Trail to Government Trail (Traditional Entrance), then go left down Anaerobic Nightmare. Riders then go LEFT on the Tom Blake Trail and take it to Faraway Road. Climb left up the paved Faraway Road for 100 yards then go right on Tom Blake Trail. Continue to make your way to base village on Tom Blake and follow course markings ultimately descending Easy Rider to the finish back in Base Village.

Sport/Masters/ Women/HS/MS Riders will race a SHORTER LOOP. Riders will head up the Dawdler Work Road to the water plant and intersect the Village Bound trail (LEFT TURN). This singletrack will continue onto K.A.R. briefly and then intersect the Thorton Work Road. Riders continue up this road to Ullrhof Restaurant where they will pick up the Cross Mountain Trail. Take the Cross Mountain Trail to Easy Rider to the finish back at Base village.

The course will be marked on race day and is subject to small changes from description. Please listen carefully on race day to the course directors and instructions. Also, please consider having friends marshal. (see below) The more volunteers we have at key intersections the more smoothly the race runs. Thank you for your help!

Vet Men A and Senior Men A 6:00pm
Women/Sport/Masters/Juniors’s short interval after the A’s.
Kids: After adults have started

KIDS: A shortened course on fanny hill will used for a Kid’s event. Please encourage kids age’s 6-13 to come out and ride this popular and exciting course—registration is free but a waiver must be signed.

MARSHALS: Several marshals are needed for next week’s race. Marshal points will be awarded to members who give their time and effort to marshal. 30 points for the first race you marshal and 15 for all subsequent marshal days. CANCELLATION POLICY: In the event of inclement weather on race day, the Aspen Cycling Club Board of Directors will communicate with the race director to determine the club’s ability to operate a race that is reasonably safe for competitors and for mountain bike races, preserves the integrity of local trails. All racers should assume that a final decision will be made at the start line by the race director. Smuggler Hunter Creek Race Announcement

The next Aspen Cycling Club race of the 2014 season takes place next Wednesday, June 18th at 6:00PM, starting at the base of Smuggler Mountain Road.  We are excited to try a new course this year that incorporates BTS, tootsie roll and lollipop— lots of great singletrack climbing, tight switchbacks and challenging downhill!

Party:
The race will be followed by a party @ 7:15pm hosted by our sponsor, 520 Grill. Come by after your race for complimentary beer, sodas, and appetizers, 10% off combo meals, and 10% off À la carte items for club members and their families!

Start Times:
6:00pm Senior Men A
6:02pm Vet Men A
6:04pm  Master/Sport/Women

The Course:
Racers will head up Smuggler Mountain Road (SMR).  At the top of Smuggler, near the observation deck, continue STRAIGHT onto the Behind the Sign Trail (BTS). Continue on BTS trail staying LEFT at all the intersections.  Take a LEFT on Smuggler Mountain Road, continue through the wooden gate and then a RIGHT on the southern portion of tootsie roll and ascend.   At the top of Tootsie roll, take a LEFT  for a very short descent down Smuggler Mountain Road and then a quick RIGHT back onto Tootsie roll and continue to descend. At the bottom of Tootsie Roll take a RIGHT onto Lollipop and traverse.  Take a LEFT at the lollipop cutoff (LC) and  descend.  At the bottom of LC take a RIGHT at the Hunter Creek Cutoff and descend.   At the capped mine area, make a RIGHT on the Iowa Shaft Trail and descend.   After descending to the valley floor, take a RIGHT on the doubletrack and then A LEFT BEFORE CROSSING THE BRIDGE onto the hunter creek single track.  Take a RIGHT onto the 10th Mountain Division bridge.  Once over the bridge,  continue STRAIGHT onto a short trail to the Four Corners Rd (FCR) and take a LEFT.  Masters/Sport/Women’s categories will finish roughly 200 yards from the turn, at the base of Four Corners Road.   All Senior Men A and Vet Men A racers will continue up FCR. Take a RIGHT on Lower Plunge(LP) and descend.  At the bottom of  LP take a RIGHT and continue on the Hunter Creek Valley Trail back to the base of four corners road and REPEAT making a second lap on the (FCR/LP/HCV) loop before finishing

Note from Race directors:

Please affix number plates IN FRONT of your brake and shifter cables.  This makes it easier for officials read and record places at the finish.

Parking:
Parking will be available at the base of Smuggler , but as always, competitors are encouraged to ride to the race.

Butterhack circuit mtn bike race

BUTTERHACK CIRCUIT RACE

Next Wednesday 6/4 we’ll start at the base of Tiehack for the Butterhack Circuit Race and some more fat tire fun.

COURSE: It will all start just up the jeep access road from the base of Tiehack lift. The course will loop around Tiehack and onto Buttermilk, incorporating portions of the Oregon Trail and the main access road until heading left on the Government Trail down through the infamous root section. This race has it all – sweet singletrack, ripping downhills, and plenty of climbing to test your fitness.

NEVER EVER’S
Do you have a friend who is curious about racing and wants to try it out for the first time? The Butterhack race is the perfect course for them! Please encourage your friends to come on out and race against other “never ever’s” to gain experience and confidence!

KIDS: A shortened portion of the circuit will also be used for a Kid’s event. Please encourage kids age’s 6-13 to come out and ride this popular and exciting course—registration is free but a waiver must be signed.

REGISTRATION AND PARKING:

Advance registration is not required. Racers can register and pay at the the base of Tiehack between 5:00 and 5:50. No registration available after 5:50. All riders including A riders must register by 5:50pm at the Tiehack base area. Entry fees are $5 for ACC members and $10 for nonmembers. Prepaid members must check in before the race start. Parking is available at the Tiehack lot, but racers are always encouraged to ride to the Start as it’s more environmentally friendly.

START TIMES/LAPS:

Women/Sport/Masters/Juniors/Never Ever’s will start at 6:00, Kids will start shortly thereafter and A riders will start once the Women/Sport/Masters/Juniors/Never Ever’s race is completed.

2 LAPS All women, Never ever’s Men & Women Sport Racers, Masters, Grand Masters, High School/Middle School, and Super Grand Masters

Sky Mountain Park Race and 520 Grill Party

Sky Mountain Park Race Announcement

The next Aspen Cycling Club race of the 2014 season takes place next Wednesday, May 21st at 6:00PM, starting at the gate for the radio tower dirt road. Racers will start per category, in intervals, from the road. This is an epic mountain bike race course, with a little bit of everything including sweet single-track, is not to be missed!

Party:
The race will be followed by a party @ 7:15pm hosted by our sponsor, 520 Grill. Come by after your race for complimentary beer, sodas, and appetizers, 10% off combo meals, and 10% off À la carte items for club members.
The course:
The race will head up the radio tower road before heading onto the Sky Mountain Park Trail singletrack. The Club is hoping the trails will dry up enough to incorporate some of the new cozyline and airline trails, but this will be a decision will be made race day in conjunction with the trails manager. If new trails are NOT dry, race will follow the same course as last year: up radar road to skyline ridge trail then left onto the Highline/Lowline trail and race to Cemetery Lane where racers will take a left and sprint to the finish.

Crown Mountain Short Track Race

Aspen Cycling Club is excited to kick off the 2014 mountain bike season with a brand new short track race at Crown Mountain Park on Wednesday May 7th. The course is fast and has minimal elevation gain so it should be a fun tactical race!

Course description- Course is approximately 1.1 miles long. Features a mix of double track and singletrack riding. From the start, racers head south towards the BMX track. The course turns left onto a double track along a fenceline and follows this for about .4 miles. From here the course turns left onto a short singletrack followed by a second left turn into a longer section of singletrack through the sagebrush. Ride this back towards the tennis courts and the start line.

Start Times:

5:45pm – Kids Race- Shorter version of the course.
6:00pm- All Women/High school-Middle School/Grand Masters
race format: 15 minutes plus 1 lap
6:25pm (approx)- All other Masters/Sport categories
race format: 20 minutes plus 1 lap
6:50pm (approx)- Vet Men A
race format: 20 minutes plus 2 laps
7:15pm (approx)- Senior Men A
race format: 25 minutes plus 2 laps

Kids Event:
The Crown Mountain Short Track Race includes a kids category. 5:45pm- (Ages 6-13). Will be a short version of adult course.

Parking: Parking is available close to the start in a small lot by the tennis courts and the dog park. If this is full, extra parking is available just to the east near the baseball fields. No Parking on the roads, please use one of the parking lots.
