This year, we have an exciting new addition to the ACC mountain bike circuit with the first ever race on the private Tree Farm property adjacent to Highway 82 in El Jebel. Much ballyhooed by the lucky few who have sampled this singletrack, all ACC members will get to find out for themselves what all the fuss is about next Wednesday night, July 1st.
Parking: Heading west on Highway 82, turn right at the light at the Whole Foods intersection. At the first T make a left, and then make your first right onto the dirt to the parking for the Win Health Institute. Park there (at the front end of the lake).
Start Times/Laps: The sport, women, masters, high school and middle school categories will begin at 6:00pm. This start wave will perform one (1) lap of the course, which is expected to take 30-45 minutes.
Senior Men A will begin at 6:45, Senior Men B at 6:47, and Vet Men A at 6:50. These categories will perform two (2) laps of the course.
COURSE: Each lap is 5.50 miles and contains 750 vertical feet of climbing. The race will begin with .8 miles of dirt road and double track, giving ample time to pass before the course hits the single track (and a steep climb) and the fun begins!
The course is very different than the other MTB races offered by the club. While there is little in the way of sustained climbs, what climbing there is tends to be (very) steep. The course is very technical, with rocks, roots, sharp switchbacks, and some inventive man-made features set to challenge a rider’s skill. If there was ever an ACC race to leave the hardtail at home and bring the trail bike, this is the one!
WAIVER: Because the race is on private land, all racers will be required to complete an additional liability waiver at registration.
REGISTRATION AND MEMBERSHIP: PLEASE NOTE: ALL racers must check in (even if you have your number) and ACC kindly requests that any new registrants should arrive early (before 5:50pm) to complete registration. Registration takes place in the parking lot from 5:00 and 5:50 pm. Cost is $5 for club members and $10 for non-members.
Registration for membership in the Aspen Cycling Club and purchase of season long race packages is again available online. To sign up visit
Online registration will close at 12:00 PM on the Tuesday before each race to allow us time to prepare all of the start and membership lists. To save time at registration during your first race, we encourage everyone to sign up online AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Online registration is preferred, but if you don’t choose this option, come to the start with your completed form http://www.aspencyclingclub.org/wp-content/2015-Aspen-Cycling-Club-Registration-Form.pdf and remember to bring your entry money. MARSHALS: Marshals are always needed! New for 2015, you MUST Marshal one race, road or mountain, in order to qualify for end of season championship standings. No ACC points will be awarded for your first Marshal effort. Each additional race marshaled will be awarded 15 points to either the road or mountain bike series as selected by the ACC member. A new and improved Marshal sign up system will be in place to make planning and scheduling your marshaling commitments easier for everyone. CANCELLATION POLICY- In the event of inclement weather on race day, the Aspen Cycling Club Board of Directors will communicate with the race director to determine the club’s ability to operate a race that is reasonably safe for competitors and for mountain bike races, preserves the integrity of local trails.
