The first Aspen Cycling Club race of the 2014 season is just one week away! This year we will kick off the season with the Old Snowmass Time Trial on Wednesday April 30th. The course begins at the intersection of East Sopris Creek Road and Capitol Creek Road in Old Snowmass. Registration will be held between 5:00 and 5:50 pm at the start line. The first racer departs at 6:00 PM and racers start every 30 seconds after that. The course first climbs up Capitol Creek Road for 3 miles to a turnaround at the entrance to St. Benedict’s Monastery. Riders than return along Capitol Creek Rd, past the start line, and continue up Snowmass Creek Road. Race finish is 0.5 mile past Watson Divide Rd on Snowmass Creek Rd. Total race length is approximately 8.25 miles with 750 feet of elevation gain.
Never Ever Event:
The Old Snowmass TT includes a Never Ever category. Love to ride your bike but not sure how to get started racing? Then our “never ever” races could be your ticket! These races are designated on the 2014 calendar and are a fun safe way to try a club race for the first time.
Parking is very limited near the start line in Old Snowmass. Racers are encouraged to park at the Park and Ride near the intersection of Highway 82 and Snowmass Creek Road (Old Snowmass Conoco) and ride to the start as a part of their warm-up.
Registration for membership in the Aspen Cycling Club and purchase of season long race packages is again available online through PreRace.com. Please visit http://www.prerace.com/races/event/46225/2014-Aspen-Cycling-Club-Membership to sign up. Online registration will close at 12:00 PM on the Tuesday before each race to allow us time to prepare all of the start and membership lists. To save time at registration during your first race, we encourage everyone to sign up online AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Old fashioned printable copies of membership applications can be found at http://www.aspencyclingclub.org/wp-content/ACC_Membership_Registration.pdf.
Online registration is preferred, but if you don’t choose this option, come to the start with your completed form and remember to bring your entry money. For your first race of the season, please arrive early to allow plenty of time to complete registration and pick up your race number. Registration opens at 5:00 PM and closes at 5:50 PM.
Team captains- please be sure to submit your team rosters prior to the start of the season. Rosters can be emailed to email@example.com. As we have done in the past, only the top three finishers in each category earn points for their respective teams. There remains no limit on how many members can be on each team. We encourage everyone to join a team and teams to actively recruit new members.
Please be aware of the Aspen Cycling Club time trial start procedure:
-Competitors must arrive in the start queue no later than 30 seconds before their start. Failure to meet this requirement will mean a forfeiture of start position and relegation to end of start list
-All time trial racers are required to start from a full stop. If race officials/marshals/volunteers are available, each racer will be held for a time trial start with both feet clipped into pedals. If no volunteers are available, each racer must start with one foot on ground.
Seven (7) marshals are needed for the Old Snowmass Time Trial. Points will be awarded to members who give their time and effort to volunteer. 30 points will be awarded for the first race you marshal during the season and 15 for all subsequent days. No experience is required. Please remember that the races won’t run smoothly without volunteer marshals! To volunteer, please email Mouse at firstname.lastname@example.org or call her at 970-618-4626. Please let her know ASAP if you can marshal!
CANCELLATION POLICY: In the event of inclement weather on race day, the Aspen Cycling Club Board of Directors will communicate with the race director to determine the club’s ability to operate a race that is reasonably safe for competitors and for mountain bike races, preserves the integrity of local trails. All racers should assume that a final decision will be made at the start line by the race director. However, when possible, the Board of Directors will alert racers of a race cancellation prior to the start by emailing the club email group, posting on the website and the ACC Facebook page by 5 p.m. PLEASE DO NOT PHONE OR TEXT THE RACE DIRECTOR FOR RACE CANCELLATION INFORMATION. Call the ACC hotline 970-922-2000 for the latest information and details.
