The Government Trail needs your help! With an incessant monsoon this year, the foliage on the Government Trail needs a real trimming, not to mention draining some serious mud puddles.
The ACC will once again be performing their Adopt a Trail commitment through Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers (RFOV) on the UPPER stretch of the Government Trail on Snowmass Mountain. This will take place on Wednesday, July 29th from 5-8pm. This trail work day is being held in place of one of our regularly scheduled mountain bike races. All members who participate will receive 30 points that count towards your season long total for mountain and combined race events. Similar to last year the ACC will no longer offer points for trail work projects outside of the ACC Trails Day. Wednesday, July 29 will be your only opportunity to earn trail work points this season.
Registration will take place between 5:00 and 5:30pm just past the very the top of Wood Road in Snowmass Village. RFOV will have a registration table set up just as the dirt work road begins. We will then consolidate and carpool to the trail head, pick up tools and hike in 1/2 to 2 miles to the work sites. We will sort out car shuttling as people arrive at the parking area. Please arrive early so we can organize and make it a productive evening.
This year we will need 4-6 people on mountain bikes to ride in 2 1/2 miles with portable tools and work back towards the trailhead. If you would like to be one of these Trail Agents please bring your bike and a daypack to carry tools. Please be sure to bring work gloves, sturdy shoes, layered clothing, a rain jacket, water or energy drink with energy bar and mosquito repellant.
As an added bonus all ACC participants will be eligible for RFOV’s raffle for a new $3500 Yeti mountain bike through Ute City Cycles who is incentivizing active trail involvement through RFOV in the Roaring Fork Valley.
Following our trail work, the Ranger Station at the end of the Snowmass Village Mall will be providing free beer and appetizers.
